At SunGrid Solutions, safety isn’t just a priority – it’s a core value deeply embedded in our company culture. It’s a top-down culture that our leadership team reinforces daily. As we head into the summer months, we take extreme care of our employees when it comes to the unique challenges of the season. Our commitment to the well-being of our team means we take extra precautions to ensure everyone stays safe, hydrated and healthy on the job.
1. Staying Hydrated
We know it sounds simple, and everyone has likely been told to drink lots of water when it’s hot out. But staying hydrated is crucial in preventing heat-related illnesses. That’s why we ensure there’s always plenty of water on site at all of our projects. We also provide hydration packs, so our team members can keep water with them at all times, making it easy to stay hydrated throughout the day.
2. Cooling Stations
To offer immediate relief from the heat, we’ve set up several cooling stations at all our project sites. These areas provide shade where employees can take breaks and relax. It’s a simple but effective measure to keep everyone safe and feeling well.
3. Training and Awareness
Education is a key component of our safety strategy. We conduct comprehensive heat and hydration training sessions, guided by Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) resources, ensuring that every team member knows the importance of staying hydrated and recognizing the early signs of dehydration. We also reinforce their stop work authority and emphasize how it relates to heat. Additionally, our heat stress awareness training equips our employees with the knowledge to identify symptoms of heat stress and take appropriate action promptly.
4. Monitoring Weather Conditions
We closely monitor weather and humidity levels for each project location. This allows us to anticipate dangerous conditions and adjust work schedules accordingly. When temperatures exceed thresholds, we enforce mandatory rest-to-work ratios to give our employees the necessary time to cool down and recover, minimizing the risk of heat-related issues.
5. A Culture of Care
At SunGrid, our approach to safety goes beyond compliance – it’s about fostering a culture of proactive care. We believe that every team member matters. Additionally, they are integral to our success, and their safety and well-being are paramount. As we navigate the challenges of the summer months, we’re proud to uphold these values and take proactive steps to protect our people.
